Amending a UAE Trade License: Adding Activities, Shareholders, or Managers

Published by Valusage Advisory Team

Once a company is set up, the trade licence isn't static — adding a business activity, changing a shareholder, appointing a new manager, or updating a company name are all amendments, and each has its own required sequence of approvals. Getting the order wrong is the most common reason an otherwise simple amendment takes weeks longer than it should.

The most common amendment types

Adding or removing a business activity (which may trigger additional approvals if the new activity needs a separate regulator's sign-off), changing shareholding or ownership percentages, appointing or removing a general manager, and changing the registered company name are the amendments we see most often — each is processed by the same licensing authority that issued the original licence, but the supporting documents required differ meaningfully between them.

Why sequence matters

Some amendments have dependencies — a shareholder change may need to be reflected before a related activity or visa change can proceed, and a name change typically needs to cascade through the trade licence, tax registrations, and bank records in a specific order to avoid a mismatch between what each authority has on file.

What gets missed most often

Downstream registrations are the easiest thing to forget — a shareholder or activity change on the trade licence that isn't then reflected with the FTA, the bank, or on existing contracts leaves a business with mismatched records across systems, which surfaces later as a compliance or banking friction point.

Where Valusage fits

Our Trade Licence Amendment service (from AED 1,000 per standard amendment) handles the documentation and authority coordination for a standard amendment, and flags any downstream registrations that need updating as a result. Government and authority fees for the amendment itself are separate and paid directly to the licensing authority.
